NEWS RELEASE
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – June 29, 2010 - The Niagara 1812 Bicentennial Legacy Council’s series of public service announcements has received two additional international awards this month. The two 30 second PSAs, “200 Years” and “Fog”, have now won five awards to date.
The public service television announcements won the Award of Excellence from the 2010 Videographer Awards for first place in the category of Public Service. There were approximately 1, 800 entries submitted from the US and numerous other countries, and the Niagara 1812 Bicentennial Legacy Council PSAs was among only 14 per cent of entries to win an award. The Videographer Awards is an international competition designed to recognize excellence in video productions, TV commercials, news programs and new media. The competition has been operating for 14 years and is one of the most respected programs in the industry.
The 2010 Telly Awards also awarded the public service announcements Bronze in the category of Campaign- Not-for-Profit. This year’s competition saw over 11, 000 entries from 50 states and five continents, and only 10 per cent of entries received an award. The Telly Awards is a widely known competition that has been honouring the best in video and film production annually since 1978.
The public service television announcements were initiated by Vincent Del Buono, the late CEO of the Niagara 1812 Bicentennial Legacy Council, as a way to promote the new www.discover1812.com website. Brian Purdy, a member of the Grimsby 1812 Bicentennial Committee, produced the PSAs pro bono in collaboration with WNED-TV in Buffalo.
Last month, the PSAs won Bronze in the Public Service Campaign category at the 2010 Houston International Film Festival, as well as Platinum in the Pro Bono category and Platinum in the Public Service Campaign Category at the 2010 Hermes Creative Awards. The two recently won awards, in addition to the three won last month, are an enormous achievement for the Niagara 1812 Bicentennial Legacy Council, and also for the overall promotion of the Bicentennial celebration. The success of the PSAs reflects the importance of and lasting commemoration of the dynamic history that exists in Niagara.
The Niagara 1812 Bicentennial Legacy Council is a bi-national not-for-profit organization established to commemorate the War of 1812 and celebrate the 200 years of peace between Canada and the United States which have followed.
