The Annual War of 1812 Symposium is the longest running forum of its kind in the United States. Sponsored by the 1st U. States Infantry Regiment and St. Louis Parks Department and hosted by the Friends of Fort Belle Fontaine Park.

Saturday, March 20, 2010:
8am: Conference Center Opens. Coffee, juice, rolls.
9am: Introduction
9:15am: “The Hochunk Nation: The Winnebago’s in the War of 1812” by Michael Dickey, Administrator Arrow Rock State Historic Site and author, Arrow Rock: Crossroads of the Missouri Frontier.
10:00am: “Forts and Blockhouses of Early Illinois” by William D. Wilson, Chair, Illinois War of 1812 Bicentennial Commission, Co-author The Tales of Hill’s Fort and Other Bond County Stories during the War of 1812.
11:00am: “Fortifications of St. Louis during the War of 1812 in the Missouri Territory” by Michael Harris, History instructor, Editor The Dispatch.
Noon: Courtesy of the Friends of Fort Belle Fontaine Park, free box lunch for all attendees and speakers to the 20th Annual Symposium.
1:00pm: General Meeting of the Friends of Fort Belle Fontaine Park. 1:30pm: “William Clark and the War of 1812” by Jeffrey Smith, Ph.D., Professor of History, Lindenwoood University, St. Charles, Missouri and Editor, Seeking a Newer World: The Fort Osage Journals and Letters of George Sibley 1808-1811.
2:30pm: “The Court Martial of Lt. Col. Robert Carter Nicholas, 1st Infantry” by David C. Bennett, Coordinator of the War of 1812 in the West Symposium, Contributor to Journal of the War of 1812, Journal of America’s Past and Military Collector & Historian Journal.
3:30pm: “The Battle of Lundy’s Lane” by Richard V. Barbuto, Ph.D., Professor of History, Command and General Staff College, Fort Leavenworth, Kansas and author of Niagara 1814: America Invades Canada.
4:30pm: Presentations conclude.
6pm: Join us for Supper at Hendel’s Market Café, Historic Old Town Florissant.
